Creating a Plot file - AutoCAD 2000 - 2005
Beginner's guide
Why do we prefer Plot files

We would rather deal with plot files than drawing files, for two reasons. First, if any special fonts have been used in the drawing, we
will need copies of. Secondly, if there are externally referenced files (Xrefs) attached to the drawing, we will need those. We then have to set-up the file(s) and this will have to be charged. A plot file has all the necessary information contained within it - no need to send anything else. A plot file will also zip up much smaller than a drawing file. All we have to do is plot the file, which is much quicker for us and cheaper for you.
How to create a Plot file
First we need to set-up an appropriate plotting device (this only needs to be done once) - we won't actually plot to it, but instead use it to create a plot file that can be copied to a disk and sent to us. Alternatively, these plot files can be emailed to us or sent remotely via Reprodesk (please ask for more information on this service). Follow these steps to create a plot file:
  • With AutoCAD 2000 running, form the file menu click Plotter Manager and then double click Add a Plotter Wizard, the introduction page appears, click next.
  • Click my computer and click next. The plotter model page appears.
  • In the Manufacturers list click Hewlett Packard. In the Models list click DesignJet 755CM C3198A, click next.
  • The Driver Information message appears, clicks continue. The Pcp or Pc2 page appears, click next.
  • The Ports page appears click Plot to File and click next. The Plotter name page appears.
  • Accept the default name for the plotter, or type in a new name, click next. The finish page appears
  • To create a plot file, click on the print icon or go to file, print.
  • For the plotter configuration select the Designjet 755CM C3198A
  • Set the paper sizes that are expanded, as these leave no print margin.
  • Make sure plot to file is checked.
  • Check the file name and location and click OK to create the plot file.
